Savasana. (Or the Importance of Being Still.)
I am not talking about being lazy. I’m talking about being still. Being lazy is putting your brain into a place outside of yourself - immersing yourself into something, letting something else do your thinking for you. *ahem, Facebook, Tumblr, Mob Wives, Blogs, Blog, Blogs…* Being still is different.
In a yoga class, you will always find savasana, or corpse pose, at the very end. Its a pose of total relaxation where, while laying down in complete stillness, you allow all the benefits of your practice to sink in while staying completely present. It’s a moment where you ultimately free your mind from the past, stop thinking about the future and simply lay in acceptance. It’s also the point in every yoga class where I start feverishly thinking about my shopping list for dinner, remind myself to stop and stay present, replay that conversation I had with so-and-so, stop, stay present, replay that conversation I had with so-and-so the way that I wish it went, stop, stay present.
Being still to take in all that life has given you - the exciting, the bad, the pretty, the shitty, the revelations, the confrontations - without judgment is hard. Sometimes it feels impossible because thoughts can make you angry so you just want to get up and shout. But that’s when you need it most.
I’m always great at being lazy. Lately, not so good at being still.
i’m doing it.
i’m gonna see the world.

- Find out where the nearest Juice Press is. (I need coconut ceviche)
- Come up with alternate choices for the word ‘Play.’ (The word play is to developmental apparently.)
- Find images to go with the headline that talks about silver. (The current image is not ‘gifty’ enough.)
- Choose a bottle shape for a new line of whiskey. (It would really help me to have a sample of your whiskey right now.)
- Render labels onto said bottles. (See above)
- Write a year’s worth of eNewsletters for magnesium supplements. (Who the hell cares?)
- Web banner story board with an peacock automaton. (What the hell is an automaton?)
- Go to yoga.

Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves and, of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys they’d just walk around naked at all times.
